Vic: Internet delivers VCE results to most students
MELBOURNE, Dec 16 AAP - The internet was the most popular method for VCE students tofind out their results today, with few willing to wait for the traditional post tomorrow.
Of the 49,361 students who sat VCE exams, 96.5 per cent - or 47,626 - passed.
By noon today, students had logged on to the internet 58,852 times to discover howthey fared and phoned the automated telephone service 13,246 times.
About 5,000 registered to use a mobile telephone to access results through SMS (ShortMessaging Service) which was available for the first time.
A Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) spokeswoman said some studentshad used more than one method to access their results, and had accessed the internet morethan once.
She said the system ran smoothly with all students who registered receiving their results.
Presbyterian Ladies College student Christine Qian was one of 20 students statewidewho achieved the highest possible ENTER (Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank) of99.95 per cent.
Christine, who studied English, English Literature, Mathematics Method, SpecialistMaths and Chinese, said she could not believe her high result.
"I was just hoping not to do badly, so having that mark was a bonus," she said.
The Mt Waverley student set her alarm for 6.55am and was online to get her results at 7am.
Christine said after she celebrates with a shopping spree, she would turn her mindto her future, which she hoped would be studying medicine at Melbourne University.
More than 50 students facing disciplinary charges over allegations of cheating willhave to wait longer for their results.
A spokesperson for the education department has said the 54 students would be calledin for interviews before a disciplinary committee this week.
She said following the course of investigations, students would receive notificationof their results in the new year.
