NSW: School kids to get fit and help sick children
SYDNEY, April 29 AAP - School children can help hospitalised kids by taking part ina health and fitness program, NSW Sport and Recreation Minister Sandra Nori said today.
Ms Nori said under the FitKids4SickKids program, NSW school children score points foreating healthy foods and being active while helping ill children at the Sydney Children'sHospital.
The program costs $4 for school children to join and the money raised will go towardsequipment and child health research at the hospital.
"This is a positive step in helping tackle the community issues of child obesity," she said.
Walking to school, being active in the playground, bike riding and dancing were someof the activities being encouraged, Ms Nori said.
The government planned to eventually integrate the program into all state schools'curriculum, she said.
Schools have until Friday, May 2, to register, with 2,500 having already signed up.
