Vic: Protesters disrupt education minister

MELBOURNE, Jan 10 AAP - Chanting student protesters hijacked the opening of a Melbourne
conference today, forcing federal Education Minister David Kemp to surrender the stage.

Dr Kemp was preparing to open the Mathematics 2000 Festival at Melbourne University
when the group of about 20 students began chanting "Education for all: not just the rich".

The minister initially stood quietly at the podium as the noisy group maintained their
chant in the university auditorium but when other student conference-goers joined in,
Dr Kemp stepped down.
