NT: Mandatory sentencing opponents fell snubbed by police

Northern Territory Police Commissioner BRIAN BATES is looking into allegations that
police are unwilling to investigate burglaries if victims oppose mandatory sentencing.

Two burglary victims have made the allegations on ABC radio, after police raised questions
about victims' views of mandatory sentencing while attending crimes scenes.

Police Minister MIKE REED says he doubts questioning householders about mandatory sentencing
is widespread.

He says he'd expect it to be an isolated situation and he says Mr BATES is investigating.

Labor leader CLARE MARTIN has called for an immediate Ombudsman's investigation into
police property crime policy.
