Soccer had higher hopes.

Both Adirondack Region women's soccer teams won medals as the Empire State Games ended Sunday.

Neither won a gold, but though some tears were shed, the general feeling for both teams was one of accomplishment. The open women's team broke a 1-1 tie with two minutes of regulation play remaining, and went on to a 3-1 victory to take the silver medal over Hudson Valley. Ashley Moore (Shenendehowa High and University of North Carolina) scored all three goals, giving her eight in the four tournament games.

"We showed some character coming back after (Saturday's) loss to New York City," coach Betsy Drambour said. "We had to put it behind us and learn from it."
