FED:Digger's death is terrible blow: minister

PERTH, Feb 20 AAP - The death of another young Australian soldier does not weaken the
government's resolve to "stare down" terrorism in Afghanistan, Defence Minister Stephen
Smith says.

Sapper Jamie Larcombe is the second soldier from the same Darwin-based regiment killed
in Afghanistan in a matter of weeks.

The 21-year-old was killed during un-partnered patrol in Oruzgan province where Air
Chief Marshal Angus Houston said insurgents launched a coordinated attack with machine
gun and small arms fire.
